learning more about art

Still turning up every Sunday at Malahide Tennis Club railings to exhibit my paintings.  We are taking advantage of the good weather while we have it.  Sales are slow but its nice to have people comment about your pictures or ask questions, there is always a chance that they will come back another day.  Am meeting more painters too and everyone is eager to share tips and experiences.

I went to a new framers today,  Dolores of Art Design in Baldoyle Industrial Estate. Three pictures framed and ready for next Sunday.

I went to the free life sketching class for over 55’s in National Gallery of Ireland this week.  The teacher had us drawing with our ‘other’ hand and with pen on the end of a stick. It was very, what’s the word, eyeopening! invigorating! freeing! while they were not finished pictures by any means the position of the model was evident even in the 30 second challenges. I was quite surprised.

Had a go at some little abstract pieces today. Was always wary of abstract painting, when do I stop, what colours do I use. But when doing just little ones it was easier.

TIP OF THE DAY

ALWAYS PHOTOGRAPH FINISHED WORK.  IT IS GREAT TO HAVE A REMINDER OF A NEW TECHNIQUE OR MAYBE IF IT IS SOLD THEN YOU HAVE REFERENCE MATERIAL TO PAINT IT AGAIN.
